Suffolk Construction Selected As General Contractor For St. Petersburg’s Tallest Building
Suffolk Construction has been selected as the general contractor for The Residences at 400 Central, a world-class 46-story mixed-use tower slated to ascend over the heart of Downtown St. Petersburg at 400 Central Avenue. The 515-foot-tall structure will become the new tallest building in St. Petersburg and on Florida’s west coast, designed by Miami-based Arquitectonica and developed by New York City-based Red Apple Real Estate. The project will yield 1.3 million square feet of space including 301 condominium homes with 35,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities, retail and restaurant space, Class A office space and a rooftop observatory with view from Tampa Bay to the Gulf of Mexico.
Construction crews are preparing to drill test pilings for the 400 Central tower foundation to be immediately followed by the full-scale start of foundation work. The current phase of construction is required to accommodate the insertion of 88 steel-reinforced concrete foundation pilings – some of which will span six feet in diameter and reach depths of approximately 180 feet.
In addition to recent projects in Tampa, Suffolk is well known for building a wide variety of developments, including the recently completed Montage Big Sky Residences near Yellowstone National Park, the Hudson Exchange West towers in New York City, and the Miami Central complex with two residential towers and a rail station. They are well equipped to handle a project the magnitude of The Residences at 400 Central.
The Residences at 400 Central will soar 515 feet above downtown St. Petersburg’s vibrant Central Avenue, capturing panoramic views from Tampa Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. This world-class residential tower will be full-service and the first of its kind in St. Petersburg to include a dedicated lifestyle coordinator who will activate the amenities and engage the community.
A state-of-the-art sales gallery across from the site at 465 Central Avenue was established by Red Apple and Michael Saunders & Company this past October and is continuing the ongoing process of facilitating the sales of luxury condominiums, priced from $800,000.
